A weekend spent on the Central Coast of NSW, Australia.
A super fun surf we had at Scott's Head, NSW, Australia.
After an amazing few days exploring Big Sur we have arrived in Santa Cruz, home to world famous surf break, Steamer Lane. What a treat to see this wave pumping, it is an amazing point break that offers surfers barrels and super long rides. It was also amazing to see the amount of wildlife that hang out at this break. (Enough shark bait to put us off jumping in the water) There was a whole pack of sea lions sitting on a rock not 50 meters away from the break and these curious creatures would regularly pop up to say hello to the surfers. We even saw some otters, probably the cutest creatures ever, swimming across the break. It was so much fun sitting up on the rocks watching the surfers and wildlife play in the ocean.
Honolua Bay is well known as a world class wave. On this day the swell was small, however you could still see the potential it has and there were some nice long board waves on offer. We were stoked to meet a local pro surfers dad who gave us the low down of where it breaks, when it's on fire and where the 'truck sized' barrels occur. Even though we didn't have boards with us, we were more than happy to sit back, relax and take in the waves and the beautiful landscape of the island.
It was a childhood dream come true exploring the North Shore of Hawaii. Growing up I loved watching professional surfers take on waves like Sunset, Waimea, Pipe and Rocky Point. It was a smaller swell this day, however there were still a lot of local kids shredding at Rock Piles and some others showing us how it's done at Rocky Point.
Long boarding on some of the funnest, longest waves at Waikiki beach.
We were so excited to arrive in Oahu, Hawaii. Catching a taxi with Tony our driver was great as he told us all the interesting places to go and things to do, we love a bit of local intel. He dropped us at our hotel in Waikiki and as we do, we set off straight away to explore our surroundings. Waikiki has so much on offer. Walking the streets to get our bearings, we came across some beautiful market places and reenergised with a Coconut Coffee Frappe, mmmm! Setting off to the beach we couldn't believe the colour of the ocean and the perfect fun little waves for long boarding. Renting a famous Donald Takayama board we took turns trimming and gliding across the friendly waves. Waikiki waves may look crowded, however it is the nicest crowd we have come across with regular cheering and party waves.
Whilst surfing, we could hear some funky live music on the beach. After dropping our board back we went over to the band and relaxed with some fresh beats. The Ron Artis Family band was playing for a local surfing competition festival. We will definitely do a write up for them and share their links in our ROAR Network as they were awesome.
Waikiki is just amazing, we have had the best first day of our trip. We feel very lucky to be on such a fantastic adventure.
